  1. A common misconception is that smelting and melting metal is the same thing. Although iron melts at 1538 c, it can be smelted in it's solid state from iron oxide at about 1200 c. When done this way, the slag melts away leaving the solid particles of iron to weld together. In ancient times, iron was smelted in bloomeries at about 1200 c and was then forged into shape with tongs and hammers (research bloomery iron). I only made small beads of iron here but it's the same principle (chemical reduction of iron by carbon at 1200 c).

  2. Would you like to make ash glaze .and to make stone ware , Japanese famous raku pottery : raku family use more 6 hour second burning with pomp .also you should make orange bacteria graze. I think you will get best craft ,must product thais of slip :to paint cray pot that . Finally you should shave cray pots .because it is so heavyweight and hard to drying. You can use bamboo knife or dish wheel called puki :Native American tool.
