Championship transfer news: Aston Villa set to sign Tottenham youngster Josh Onomah on loan
Josh Onomah in pre-season action for Tottenham
Aston Villa are set to complete the signing of Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah on a season-long loan deal, according to reports.
The England Under-20 World Cup winner has been touted for a bright future but only made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Spurs first team last season.
The central midfielder has a great deal of competition in his position and Mauricio Pochettino has decided to allow the 20-year-old to go out and gain experience in the Championship.
The decision from the Argentinean manager is an unusual one as he prefers to keep the youth players he values highly in amongst the highly-rated Tottenham coaching set up.
However, Onomah sees himself as a box to box midfielder – the position he played as England went on to win the Under-20 World Cup – but the only opportunities that would come his way in the near future at Spurs were out wide.
Villa boss Steve Bruce can offer the youngster minutes in his favoured position and the move could help the Enfield-born man develop further.
